Looking after our neighbourhoods

There are lots of green spaces around our homes that can be shared and enjoyed by the whole community. We want to make sure that these are looked after and well maintained for tenants and the wider community.

Our grounds team have been working hard throughout the winter to tidy up and maintain our neighbourhoods. They’ve been busy cutting back hedges, weeding and clearing the paths and parking areas that we own, to make sure everything is neat and tidy. Where needed, they have also started to cut the grass early to help us keep on top of things.

As part of our estate maintenance service, our teams will work to keep these areas tidy each time they visit one of our neighbourhoods. When they visit, they will complete the work that is needed in the area, which may include:

  • Litter picking and tidying up of the area
  • Weed spraying
  • Removal of moss from communal pathways
  • Cutting back trees (less than 1.8m tall), hedges and shrubs that we are responsible for.
  • Mowing and strimming of grassed areas that we own.
  • Cutting back trees and bushes that obstruct pathways or block visibility on road junctions.
  • Flattening and tidying areas that have been rutted by boar to make them safe.

You can find out more about our estate maintenance services and the standards you can expect in our Estate Maintenance Standards leaflet.

We will adapt the programme for weather and the team’s availability, but we plan to visit each area at least once per month. The team will record what has been done at each visit and take before and after photos for our records.

If our team arrive and it is raining, too wet or not safe we will not be able to cut the grass. This includes where specialist services are required to remove fly-tipping or biohazards. If the team cannot cut the grass when they visit the area, they will complete other work, such as weeding, hedge-trimming and litter picking.

The work we do will vary in each neighbourhood and will depend on what we own in the area and what standard of cut is required. You can find more information on which areas we own which cuts should be completed in your area using our new interactive map:
