Proposed changes to the way Two Rivers Housing is managed

Our Board is currently reviewing the way that Two Rivers Housing is managed.

At the moment, we are a charitable company that is registered by with the Charity Commission. The Board is looking to make some changes that will see us become a Charitable Community Benefit Society. Doing this will help us improve our processes, protect money for housing services and provide better value for money for our tenants.

We have written to all of our tenants to explain the plans and give them a chance to ask questions and tell us what they think. We included a Q&A leaflet with the letter that answers some of the most common questions, which you can view here.

What is a Charitable Community Benefit Society?

A Charitable Community Benefit Society is a special type of organisation. They are designed to support and improve the lives of the people and communities they serve.

Groups like Two Rivers Housing use this structure to make things work better and protect money for housing services. It will also help us give tenants better value for their rent.

Even though we won’t be registered as a charity anymore, we will still act like one and continue to provide social housing. We will also stay under the rules of the Regulator of Social Housing.

You can find out more about Charitable Community Benefit Societies and how they are regulated on the Financial Conduct Authority website: Types of mutual society | FCA

What does it mean for you?

Changing to a Charitable Community Benefit Society will not impact you or your tenancy or lease. These will continue as normal. If you have the preserved ‘Right to Buy’ or ‘Right to Acquire’, this will also remain in place.

We will still be regulated by the Regulator of Social Housing and there will be no changes to the team who manage your home.

We want to hear from you.

We have shared some answers to the most common questions in the leaflet that came with this letter. But if you would like to know more or have any other thoughts, we would love to hear from you.

So that we can move forward with this change, please share your feedback by Friday 3January 2025.

What happens next?

For those tenants that have asked a question or requested more information, we will write to them individually. We will also share a summary of the questions we received from tenants and our responses on our website.

Once we have collected any feedback from tenants, we will share this with the Board. They will look at this before making a decision on the proposed changes.

If the changes are agreed, we will start to make the changes and hope to have completed this early next year.

If you would like to meet with somebody in person or need any additional help or support, please get in touch with our governance team: GovernanceAndExecPA@2rh.org.uk. They will be happy to help.

Tenant feedback and questions

We have had some feedback and questions from tenants, who would like to know more about converting to a charitable Community Benefit Society. We have written to those that contacted us and provided answers to their questions and have also collated them in a Q&A document which we can share with all our tenants.
